Blue sky grant for Postdocs and PhD students at the Department of Oncology-Pathology

The Department of Oncology-Pathology launches the Blue Sky Grant to support innovative, cross‑disciplinary research by teams of two postdocs and/or PhD students from different groups. Each selected project receives 300 000 SEK in 2026.

Details of the grant application process

Eligibility

Teams of two post-docs / PhD students (who have passed half-time control by the submission deadline) active at the Department of Oncology-Pathology (until at least the end of 2026) from different research groups (Note: members of different teams within the same research group are considered to be from the same research group). Each person can participate in only one application.

Profile

Innovative projects that would otherwise not be performed by the host research groups. The complementary roles of the team members are important.

Costs covered by grant

The grant can be used for reagents and e.g. core-facility fees. The grant cannot be used for e.g. salaries/stipends, rent etc.

Grant submission

A project description (maximum two A4 pages, 12p Times New Roman, Margins 2.5 cm) including sections for “Significance”, “Complimentary roles of applicants” and “Innovative nature of the project” and a short budget (max half a page) as a single file in pdf-format (maximum total length is 2.5 pages). Letters supporting participation in the call by the supervisors are also required. Deadline is 15th of March, applications are submitted to Hanna Sillén.

Selection

A prioritization group will select highly innovative and potentially significant projects where there is strong complementarity between the team members. A second step will involve presentation of the project by the team members.

Awards

Grants of 300 000 SEK will be awarded to successful projects and will be available from April 1:st and to be used during 2026.

Reporting

Reports of how grants were used are submitted by 31:st of January 2027 to Hanna Sillén.
