User guidelines for the zebrafish core facility

Who can access the zebrafish core facility?
- Internal academic research groups at Karolinska Institutet
- External academic groups from Swedish and European universities
Corporate users
For inquiries or to begin using the facility, please contact zebrafish-office@km.ki.se
Required permits
- The facility provides all permits needed to work immediately with zebrafish embryos up to 5 days post‑fertilization.
- An ethical permit covering standard procedures in fish older than 5 days—such as breeding, creating transgenic lines, genotyping, and pathology/necropsy—is provided by the facility.
- For additional procedures involving animals older than 5 days, a personal ethical permit may be required. We offer standardized templates and assistance in preparing such applications.
Required training
- All researchers must complete an on‑site introduction (approximately 30 minutes).
- To work with zebrafish older than 5 days, researchers must complete laboratory animal science training, which includes an online theoretical module and practical on‑site training. The course can be booked via las-edu@km.ki.se
